WORD OF THE DAY:

lacuna:

plural lacunae \luh-KYOO-nee\ or lacunas

1. A blank space; a missing part; a gap.

2. (Biology) A small opening, depression, or cavity in an anatomical structure.

Origin:

Lacuna is from the Latin lacuna, “a cavity, a hollow,” from lacus, “a hollow.”

GOOD VIBE & GREAT THOUGHT OF THE DAY:

Align your personality with your soul. Until that happens, you won’t be able to give the gifts you were meant to. Remind yourself daily of the following:

You are a soul first and a personality second.

You are worthy. You are not on this Earth by accident. You have a reason to be here. There’s a difference between accepting that in your mind and accepting it in your heart.

It’s not an “it” that you’re looking for—it’s your life that you’re living.

You are here to create an authentically empowered life. There is no guarantee you will do it. It’s up to you.

-Who are you and what is the name of your book?
My name is Derrick Turner; writing under the pseudonym, D.D. Turner. The
title of my current release is Chronicles of a Hip Hop Legend/Paths of
Grand Wizardry.

-What is your favorite word?
This switches often. Currently, it would have to be “Symbiotic”.
-What is your least favorite word?
I have a lot of those. Currently, it is “recession”.

-What turns you on about your book?
It creates a plot that no one else has ventured to create. Mixing the
culture of Hip-Hop and the literary genre of fantasy-fiction, come on,
that’s just genius.

-What turns others on about your book?
It makes for an interesting read because behind the words exists a vivid
imagery. I’ve been told by readers that they can see the story unfolding
as they are going through the book.

-What would a review of your book say?
At the risk of sounding pretentious, I would say that a great review would
read as follows:
“Absolutely ingenious! D.D. Turner has truly stumbled upon something. His
successful attempt to favorably find a symbiotic existence between Hip Hop
and the fantasy genre is dead-on, to say the least. Albeit fiction, the
true essence of the b-boy/girl culture has been captured without
compromising fundamental values and the importance of education. Not in a
long while has the culture of Hip Hop had a popular piece of work that can
be engaged by the entire family. But with the authorship of this literary
work, D.D. Turner has definitively and substantially extended the branches
on Hip Hop’s tree of tangible, worthwhile accomplishments…Word is born!”

-What sound or noise do you hate?
Finger nails on a chalk board. Just the thought of the sound emanating
from the point of contact between a dirty, chalky blackboard, and thick,
discolored fingernails makes me uneasy.

-What is your favorite curse word?
My favorite curse word would be the one that uses the prefix “mother”. It
is appropriate to use in virtually any and all situations.
“Come here, mother…,” “You’re a mother…,” “Pass that mother…,”
“Who’s this mother…,” “She’s a bad mother…,”

-What genre other than what you have currently written, would you
write?
I’d like to write something that could be categorized under the “True
Crime” genre.

-What genre would you not like to write?
I am staying away from the “Urban Street” genre. To know how to drive is
to know how to stay in your lane…I know how to stay in my lane.

-If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say about your book?
Very simply, “My son, congratulations for receiving the gift that I have
bestowed unto you. You have made it your own and have done phenomenally
with it.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Born and raised in the East New York section of Brooklyn, New York, Derrick Turner became akin to the cultural explosion of Hip Hop at an early age. Formally introduced to its cultural collage of offerings by his older brother, it was an intimate relationship that he held and continues to hold in a high regard to this day.

Thusly, the idea for the Chronicles of a Hip Hop Legend story was spawned from this very regard, as well as, his desire to expose his beloved Hip Hop to the magical landscape of fictional fantasy. The first installment of the Chronicles of a Hip Hop Legend story, entitled “Paths of Grand Wizardry,” is sure to vividly detail a magical, action-packed, offering from the perspective of a young, B-Boy. Derrick currently resides in Texas with his wife, Marilyn and their three sons, Jamison, Cameryn, and Tristan.

Author Interview: Deondriea Cantrice

WORD OF THE DAY:    Pallid : PAL-id\ , adjective;

1. Having an abnormally pale or wan complexion.

2. Lacking intensity of color or luminousness.

3. Lacking in vitality or interest.

Origin:

Pallid is from Latin pallidus “pale,” from root of pallere “be pale”.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY: FAITH AND CREATIVITY

From Julia Cameron’s creativity handbook The Artist’s Way:

Faith is almost the bottom line of creativity; it requires a leap of faith any time we undertake a creative endeavor, whether this is going to the easel, or the page, or onto the stage—or for that matter, in a homelier way, picking out the right fabric for the kitchen curtains, which is also a creative act. You have to muster a certain amount of belief that you’re not making a mistake and you’re not a fool. And this means you have to have faith.

FOR ALL THE WOMEN WHO ARE INDEPENDENT…He’s Just Not Into You Because MAYBE HE LIKES BITCHES.

HE’S JUST NOT INTO YOU

“No-Excuse Truth to Understanding Guys” explains a variety of relationship issues, such as guys not calling, disappearing, cheating, etc. Very entertaining, the book mainly focuses on empowering women in understanding that no amount of flawed explanation you try to utilize will help that man be “into you.” The book is plan and clear that if the guy really wants to be with you, he will be with you.

In life, especially in this society, we are conditioned to work hard and control situations in order to succeed. It doesn’t work that way with love and emotion. Because of this way of thinking, it’s easy to justify and/or make excuses as to why we’re not getting what we feel we deserve when we want it in relationships. This book tells it like it is and that in no uncertain terms; YOU are the only one who will suffer if you continue to cling to something that wasn’t meant to be. Who knows how many times we have let great things pass us by because we’re too busy worrying about hooking up with someone that just wasn’t meant to be. Life is way too short. Stop listening to your girlfriends’ bad advice and understand that “he is just not into you.”

Paperback: 256 pages

Publisher: Harper Element (February 2006)

ISBN-10: 0007223072

ISBN-13: 978-0007223077

Don’t give up who you are. Being too nice? My grandmother always said, “You can catch more flies with honey,” but is that a realistic view when it comes to relationships?

Why Men Love Bitches: From Doormat to Dreamgirl-A Woman’s Guide to Holding Her Own in a Relationship premises that a woman shouldn’t give up her life and to never chase a man. First off, the word BITCH stands for Babe In Total Control Of Herself. The book was funny however, it was appeared that this book was written for women who had been hurt in the past and either didn’t want to be hurt or wanted a little payback at the expense of another man. What man wants to continue to chase his tail (or yours for that matter) if the goal seems unattainable? Eventually he will become bored with the game playing and move on. Once again, this book is about control, who has the upper hand. Independence is great but let’s remember part of the definition of it is being alone, single, one. There is a self improvement principle – you teach people how to treat you. So do what you have always done, and get what you always got, or teach them how to treat you right.

Probably the most important lesson from this book is the importance of communication. A woman who calls a guy on his behavior, is showing several powerful things, she demonstrates higher value by not accepting bad behavior, she is not afraid to convey her feelings even if this might offend the guy, she is not timid and unassertive, she keeps the lines of communication honest, and open. You will win some and lose some by following the advice in this book. Following this advice too rigidly will not work. It is a matter of finding a balance, and using what works for you.

Who are you and what is the name of your book? My name is Jay Luke and my book is called “When Coal Was Queen”

What is your favorite word? Pandemonium

What is your least favorite word?I despise the word “Can’t”

What turns you on about your book? I’m very proud that it is a correct representation of the historical subject matter. So many have given half hearted attempts without proper fact checking. I’m very happy to have given people the corrected, updated version of the local history of the coal-mining town of Olyphant and it’s storied past with many interesting bits of trivia and tidbits.

What turns others on about your book? That it is an honest book about something many local readers relate to and have a physical connection with through their lineage. Almost every resident of Northeast Pennsylvania has a relative who worked and toiled in the mines.

What would a review of your book say? Well here’s one of the first brief reviews: “There can be no better tribute to a people than to keep their stories alive. With exceptional detail and a wonderful sense of time and place, When Coal Was Queen captures the history and the stories of the Queen City and its mining heritage. A wonderful book for those who call Olyphant home and for anyone who loves history.” –Cheryl A. Kashuba, co-author of Scranton & Scranton Times-Tribune local history columnist

What sound or noise do you hate? People talking about American Idol or any other glorified karaoke contest. I’m a musician and making yourself successful should never be achieved through a lottery type contest, it requires long hours and hard work.

What is your favorite curse word? Well in terms of usefulness the word “Fuck” can pretty much sum up any emotion without adding any other words to it. Whether you’re happy, sad, angry, or indifferent that word can convey your feelings just in the way it is said. I wish other words came in as handy.
What genre other than what you have currently written, would you write? Well at the moment I’m working to finish up a novel that is in the suspense/thriller category. With any luck it will be finished within the year.
What genre would you not like to write? I’d rather not paint myself in a corner by repeatedly doing the same thing, so to me variety and spice always makes things fresh and exciting. While I might say I don’t want to write a certain genre that doesn’t mean I won’t change my mind in the future. So I’d like to keep all doors open where the future is concerned.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say about your book? “So many miners up here have been up here yelling ‘Cheers!’ that they’re being remembered on Earth and they didn’t die in vain.”

About The Author:

Jay Luke was named Best Local Author in 2009 by Electric City. He is a musician and artist from Throop, Pa. A graduate from Marywood University, Jay is very active in all things art, whether it be through painting, performing with his band, or through his day job as a graphic designer. As a project engineer of the Olyphant Coal Miner Memorial Association, he has delved deeply into the origins of the area and the forgotten histories of the towns around him.

Passionate about not letting future generations forget their local origins, he took on this project to reconnect readers to the past. As writer and poet Wendell Berry once said, “The past is our definition. We may strive, with good reason, to escape it, or to escape what is bad in it, but we will escape it only by adding something better to it.”

We are Writers & we Rock! This community is a daily blog and review of books we have read, going to read, or just want to let real writers know we support them. Writers get respect but not enough credit. We are the people behind the best of the best. We create award winning sitcoms with our writing skills. We create presidents through our speeches. We make singers hitmakers with our songwriting skills, we create best-selling celebrity authors through our ghostwriting skills even when they themselves can’t read, write or form a complete sentence. We also write reviews and post them on amazon.com. We work for you. So let us know what we can do!

BOOK REVIEWS are posted daily. We have different way of reviewing books. We review two books of similar content, comparing & contrasting each other. Keep viewing our website for our reviews. Please submit inquiries to writers.rock@yahoo.com.

AUTHOR INTERVIEWS are posted weekly. We interview an author every week. Keeping in the vein of one of our favorite shows, Inside the Actors Studio, one of the questions will be what is your favorite curse word. So if you are offended by this question, don’t ask to be interviewed.

WORD OF THE DAY: We are writers and our job is to educate you through our words. What better way than a word and its definition for the day.

GOOD VIBES, GREAT THOUGHTS& THINGS THAT MAKE YOU SAY, DAMN!We have to leave you with good vibes and great thoughts for the day. We also show you some things that make you say, DAMN! We accept submissions at writers.rock@yahoo.com
